Special Election Called for SD59 Senate Seat
After representing portions of Minneapolis in the legislature for over 30 years, Sen. Larry Pogemiller has resigned to take a position in the Dayton administration. Gov. Dayton has called a special election for our SD59 State Senate seat.
Candidates interested in running in this special election, which is for the balance of Pogemiller’s term, which ends in January 2013, need to file for office on Monday, Oct. 31, Tuesday, Nov 1, or Wednesday, Nov. 2 by 5pm at either the Hennepin County Government Center or the Secretary of State’s office in the State Office Building in St. Paul.
More information on the party endorsement process for this special election will be posted soon, but it is important to emphasize that candidates MUST file for office during this three day period in order to have their name on the ballot.
Other important dates for this special election are as follows:
Candidate Withdrawal Period ends November 3, 2011 (at 5:00 pm)
Special Primary: December 6, 2011
Special Election: January 10, 2012

This schedule will allow our newly-elected Senator to be seated in time for the beginning of the 2012 regular session on January 24.
